You shared a unit's live location, and the person who opened the link sees one of these instead of a moving unit:
- "Live location sharing hasn't started yet", with a countdown.
- "This live location link has expired".
- "This link isn't valid".
- "We couldn't load this location", with Try again.
- A map where the unit stands still. The card says "No recent signal" or "No GPS fix right now — showing the last known position."
The recipient does not sign in, so they cannot fix any of this themselves. The fixes below are for the person who shared the link.
- The link has not started yet
- The link expired
- The link was deleted or mistyped
- The unit stopped reporting
- The page cannot reach the server
Before its start time, the page shows the unit's name, "Live location sharing hasn't started yet" and when it starts. A countdown runs to the start, and the page opens the map by itself at zero.
Fix
- Ask the recipient to keep the page open, or to select Refresh at the start time.
- If the start time is wrong, create a new link with the right window. See Share a unit's live location.
After its end time, the page shows "This live location link has expired" and no position.
Check
- On the map, open the unit's menu and select Share live location.
- Find the link in the list. Expired means its end time has passed.
Fix
- Create a new link with a later end time.
- Send the new link to the recipient.
See Copy or delete a shared location link.
The page shows "This link isn't valid" when the address does not match a link. A deleted link gives the same page, and so does an address that an email or chat app cut off or changed. After someone deletes a link, an open page stops updating within about 10 seconds.
Check
- Open the unit's link list.
- Look for a link with the same window. Colleagues can delete links you made, and you theirs.
Fix
- If the link is still in the list, select its copy button and send it again.
- If it is gone, create a new link.
The page shows only what the unit sends. After 5 minutes without a message, its card reads "No recent signal". Without a GPS fix, it shows the last known position with a note.
Fix
- Check the unit on your own map.
- If it is Offline, see A unit is offline, sends no messages, or a new device does not connect.
The link keeps working; the unit moves again on the recipient's page with its next message.
"We couldn't load this location" means the recipient's browser could not reach the app.
Fix
- Ask the recipient to select Try again.
- If it persists, ask them to check their internet connection or try another browser.
Contact support@getgps.eu with:
- The unit name.
- The start and end time of the link, with your time zone.
- The exact message the recipient sees.
Do not send the link itself to anyone but the recipient. Anyone with it can see the unit until it ends.
