Dispatchers chat with drivers from the map. The Driver chat tab of an account decides how those messages reach the driver. They can travel through the tracking device, the driver's app, a messenger such as Telegram, or SMS. The tab applies to every unit of that account.
The tab exists only on an account that already exists. You set up chat after you create the account.
This tab saves on its own. The Update button of the account form does not save it, and Save chat settings does not save the other tabs.
A line under the settings sums up your choice, for example "Sent through Device, Push." or "Push, then SMS.".
| Setting | What it does | Allowed values / default | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chat enabled | Turns driver chat on or off for every user of the account. | On or off | Off hides the chat in Tracking for everyone in the account. Messages already sent stay in the history. |
| Pop up new chat messages on the map | Sets whether new messages pop up on the map. | On or off. Default: on. | Only the starting value: each browser keeps its own choice in Layers after that. |
| Delivery | How the app uses the chosen channels. | All at once or Escalate. Default: All at once. | — |
| Channels | The ways a message travels. | Device, App (HTTPS), Push, Telegram, MAX, SMS, Email, as your installation offers them | Choose at least one. |
| after | Wait before a fallback channel tries. | 0 to 86400 seconds | Escalate only. |
| Stop the other channels once | Cancels the deliveries still waiting on other channels. | a channel delivers it or the driver has seen it. Default: the first. | Applies in every delivery mode. |
| Give up on the device after (hours) | How long a message waits for an offline device or the Polygon Tag app before it expires. | 1 to 168 hours. Default: 24. | Applies in every delivery mode. |
| SMS per day, at most | Caps the SMS the account sends for chat in a day. | A whole number, 0 or more. Default: 200. | Shown only when your installation offers SMS. |
If a channel you chose earlier is no longer offered, the tab names it and removes it when you save.
Separately from the channels to the driver, the account decides whether its own users get a push notification when a unit writes in chat. The Push for chat messages switch is in the Formats and display section of the account form, and saves with Update. Each user can still mute chat pushes for themselves; see Notifications and background tasks.
Dispatchers chat with each unit from Units > Tracking. Without a unit selected, the chat view lists every unit with a conversation, unread first. See Chat with a unit's driver.
