Someone was driving, but you see one of these:
- The unit card on the map has no driver panel, or reads "Unsigned Driver".
- A trip or a report row has no driver.
- The Driver assignments report has a gap where you expected an assignment.
In the app, a driver is an operator assigned to a unit for a period. The assignment comes from a person who sets it by hand, or from a driver card that the unit's device reads.
- No assignment covers that time
- The card code does not match an operator code
- The device has no operator assignment sensor
- The unit sent no data while the driver was assigned
- The operator belongs to another account
An assignment has a start date and, once it ends, an end date. An operator drives one unit at a time: assigning them to a new unit ends their earlier assignment at that moment.
Check
- In the side menu, select Reference Data > Operators.
- In the operator's row, select the pencil icon.
The Allocated units table lists their assignments with start and end dates.
- Compare the periods with the time of the trip.
Fix
- In Start Date, keep the date and time or choose a later one.
- In Unit, choose the unit.
- Select Add.
The message "Unit allocated successfully" appears.
An assignment starts now or later, so it gives a driver to the trips from then on, not to past ones.
See Assign a driver to a unit.
With a driver card or tag, the device reports the card's code. The app then looks for an operator of the account with exactly that Operator Code. If none matches, nothing changes. The app ignores a code of 0 or an empty code.
In Tapping mode, presenting the same card again removes the driver. A driver who taps twice by habit ends their own assignment.
Check
- Open the unit's messages for the time the driver started. See Inspect a unit's raw messages.
- Find the parameter that carries the card code, for example ibutton, and note its value.
- Compare it with the operator's Operator Code, character by character.
Fix
- Enter the exact code in the operator's Operator Code.
See Add an operator.
- Ask the driver to present the card again.
The device turns card codes into assignments only through a sensor of type OPERATOR_ASSIGNMENT whose Associate Code names the parameter with the code.
Check
- Open the device's Sensors tab and look for that sensor.
Fix
A dealer, or a user who can edit the device, applies the fix:
- Add a sensor of type OPERATOR_ASSIGNMENT.
- In Associate Code, enter the parameter that carries the card code.
- Choose the mode that matches the reader: Tapping or Constantly Inserted.
See Identify drivers automatically with a driver card or tag.
Reports show a driver over the time the unit actually reported. If the device was silent during part of an assignment, the Driver assignments report shows a gap there, even though the assignment covers it.
Check
- Open the unit's messages for the gap. If there are none, the gap comes from the device, not the assignment.
Fix
See A unit is offline, sends no messages, or a new device does not connect.
You can assign only an operator and a unit that are both in your account. A card code that matches an operator in another account does nothing in yours.
Check
- Make sure you work in the account that holds the unit.
- Look for the operator in that account's operators list.
Fix
- Add the operator in the unit's account, with the same Operator Code.
