On the Trips tab of the Tracking screen, or in a trips report, you see one of these:
- A set says "no trips in this range" for a day the unit drove.
- One journey shows as two or more trips, or two journeys as one.
- A notice says the stored figures are being recalculated, with Prioritise and wait and Use stored data.
- The range or the unit is not the one you meant
- The stored trips are being recalculated
- The unit had no device or no positions
- The trip detector settings split or merge trips
- The trip detector drops short trips
- Your role cannot show trips
Check
- Read the set header. It names the unit and the range.
- If the header shows "Last data:" with a date, the unit last reported before the range.
- Check the time zone. The range uses your account's time zone, not the browser's.
Fix
- If "Last data:" shows, select Show that day.
The set moves to the unit's last day with data.
- Otherwise, open the range button and choose the right period. The longest range is 92 days.
- Select Add to make a new set.
See Review a unit's trips and Time range.
The app works out trips as messages arrive, and stores them. Someone may change a sensor, the trip settings or the devices on a unit. The app then removes the stored trips for the affected period and works them out again. Until that finishes, the period can show no trips, or old ones.
The set then shows a notice. For example: "Stored figures for this range are being recalculated, so they may not match what a rerun would produce."
Fix
Choose one of the notice's options:
| Choice |
What it does |
| Prioritise and wait |
Moves the recalculation forward and reloads the set when it finishes. Only an account administrator can do this. |
| Compute it now |
Queues a part of the range that was never calculated. Offered only for such a range. |
| Use stored data |
Shows the stored trips now, without the part that is missing. |
Saving the Trip Detector tab recalculates up to 60 days of the device's trips. On a busy server that can take a while.
If the notice says the calculation service is not processing these units, waiting does not help. Use Compute it now, and report it to support@getgps.eu.
A unit has trips only for the time a device was on it and sent positions. Positions from cell towers or Wi-Fi never move a unit, unless the device's Position filter tab counts them in trips.
Check
- Open the unit's messages for the day. See Inspect a unit's raw messages.
- If there are no messages, see A unit is offline, sends no messages, or a new device does not connect.
- If there are messages, check that the device was on the unit that day. The Log tab on the map records each device added or removed.
Fix
- If the device was not on the unit, add it. See Add or remove a unit's devices.
The app recalculates the unit's trips for past days.
Each device has its own trip settings on the Trip Detector tab. The app splits a trip when:
- The unit stood still for Min. Parking time (Seconds). A shorter stop stays inside the trip.
- The device was silent for longer than Max. Interval In Messages, in seconds, and for at least the minimum parking time.
- The driver changed. A trip belongs to one driver.
With Ignition as the detection source, turning the ignition on also starts a new trip.
Check
- Look at where one trip ends and the next starts. A parking badge between them, under Show parking, shows how long the unit stood.
- Compare that time with Min. Parking time (Seconds) on the device's Trip Detector tab.
Fix
A user who can edit the device applies the fix:
- Raise Min. Parking time (Seconds) to join trips split by short stops, or lower it to split them.
- Raise Max. Interval In Messages if the device goes silent for a while during a drive.
- Select Save Changes.
The app recalculates up to 60 days.
See How trips are detected and Trip Detector tab.
The app drops a trip shorter than Min. Trip Time (Seconds) or Min. Trip Distance (Meters), and adds its time to the parking around it. With Off as the detection source, the unit has no trips at all.
Check
- On the device's Trip Detector tab, read the detection source and the two minimums.
Fix
- Choose a detection source other than Off, or lower the minimums.
- Select Save Changes.
The Trips tab needs Show Trips on Units. Without it, the map opens on Live and the tab is missing.
Fix
- Ask the Owner of your account to add Show Trips to your role.
See Un-authorized action, or you cannot change an item.
