A report shows figures you do not trust:
- Mileage or engine hours differ from the vehicle's dashboard.
- A fuel filling or drain is missing, or appears where nothing happened.
- A total does not match the rows you see.
- A dashboard widget shows a different figure from the same report.
Before you change anything, find out which source measured the figure. Most wrong figures come from the right calculation on the wrong source or settings.
- The figure comes from another source than you think
- Mileage or engine hours differ from the vehicle
- Fuel fillings or drains are missing or false
- Totals cover the whole report, not the page
- Time zone and day boundaries
- A dashboard figure differs from the report
- The stored figures are being recalculated
Some units measure the same thing in different ways: one truck has an odometer, another has only GPS. A best-available column reads each unit from the first source in its list that the unit can answer.
Check
- In the report, look for an info icon in the column header.
- Select it.
It shows which source each unit came from.
Fix
- If a unit uses GPS where it has an odometer, a dealer checks the odometer sensor on its device.
- To change the order of sources, edit the column in the template. See Add calculated and best-available columns.
The device's Counters decide how mileage and engine hours grow:
| Source |
How it counts |
| GPS |
Adds the straight line between positions, whether or not the ignition is on. |
| GPS + Ignition |
The same, but only while the ignition was on. The app uses it when the device has no source saved. |
| Mileage Sensor |
Takes the odometer reading the device sends. |
| Engine + Ignition |
Adds the time while the ignition was on. The default for engine hours. |
GPS distance runs straight between positions, so it reads shorter than the road on winding routes. The GPS sources also skip a gap between messages longer than Max. Interval In Messages. And a unit counts only while a device is on it.
Check
- Open the device's Counters dialog and read the sources.
See Counters.
- Open the unit's messages for a day with a big difference, and look for long gaps. See Inspect a unit's raw messages.
Fix
A user who can edit the device applies the fix:
- Choose a better source, for example Mileage Sensor if the device reads the odometer.
- Enter the vehicle's current odometer and engine hours in Current Value.
See Correct the odometer or engine hours.
With Mileage Sensor or Absolute Engine Hours, the device's own reading soon replaces your value. Correct the meter in the vehicle or the device instead.
The app finds fillings and drains in the fuel level over time:
- A drain starts only when the smoothed level drops by at least 10 litres between two messages. By default the app looks for drains only while the unit stands still.
- The app reports a filling only from Min. Refill Volume up, and a drain only from Min. Theft Volume up.
- A tank that sloshes can show a filling followed by a drain of the same size.
- Below the first point of the calibration table, the level reads 0.
Check
- Chart the fuel level for the period. See Chart sensor values over time.
- Look at the level around the missing or false event: a jump, a slow fall or a saw-tooth.
Fix
A user who can edit the device applies the fix on its Fuel Config tab:
- For drains while driving, turn on Detect fuel drains in motion.
- For sloshing, widen the median filter window, or turn on Exclude consecutive draining/refilling.
- For small events, lower Min. Refill Volume or Min. Theft Volume.
- For a wrong level, check the fuel sensor's calibration table. See Calibration tables.
Saving recalculates the last 60 days. To hide one wrong event without changing settings, exclude it. See How fuel fillings and drains are detected and Exclude a wrong event from reports.
The total row and the KPI cards cover the whole report, not only the page on screen. A column with no meaningful total, such as an average of averages, shows a dash in the total row.
Fix
- Compare totals with an export of the whole report, not with the page. See Download a report as Excel, PDF or CSV.
¶ Time zone and day boundaries
A report day runs midnight to midnight in the account's time zone.
Fix
See Times or measurement units look wrong.
- A widget's Period, such as Today or Last 7 days, ends now and moves with each refresh. A report shows a fixed window.
- A green "cached" tag means the figures come from a shared copy, up to one refresh interval old.
- open as report ↗ passes the widget's period, but not its units. The report then covers the units you choose again.
- An empty Widget scope covers every unit the account owns.
Fix
- Select the refresh icon on the dashboard to load every widget now.
- After open as report ↗, choose the same units as the widget's scope.
- Use a complete period, such as Yesterday or Last week, to compare figures.
See Pin a report to a dashboard.
After a change to a sensor, a counter, trip settings or the devices on a unit, the app recalculates the stored figures. Until it finishes, a report can mix old and new figures.
Fix
Follow the notice on the Generate screen. See A report or dashboard widget is empty, out of date or shows an error.
